What Is a Diploma?
A diploma is the certificate a school or testing authority issues when you complete its requirements. A high school diploma comes from the school. A GED diploma or certificate comes from the state high school equivalency program after you pass the GED test. A college diploma is issued for a completed degree.
The paper is a summary, not a grade report. It does not list classes.

A GED transcript is the score report for the tests you passed. It is not the diploma. Colleges that want scores ask for the transcript even when they already know you earned the credential.

Order that record from the school registrar or, for a GED, from your GED account. A novelty transcript prop is not an official transcript and will not satisfy an admissions or licensing request.
When Do You Need a Diploma vs. a Transcript?
Read the request and send the document it names. If it says “transcript,” a diploma will not do. If it says “proof of graduation” and nothing about courses, the diploma is often enough. When you are unsure, ask the office which file type they accept before you pay for a duplicate.
Applying for college
Most colleges want an official transcript sent by the high school, the college you attended, or the GED credential service. The diploma alone does not show grades or scores. Replace each one through the office that issued it. A school registrar replaces a high school or college diploma and transcript. Can You Order Replacement Copies of Both?
Yes. They are separate orders. A diploma order does not include a transcript, and a transcript order does not include the diploma.
Replacing a diploma
Contact the school that awarded it, or the GED program if that is the credential. Have the name you used then, your date of birth, and the approximate year. The issuer tells you which copy it can send and what it costs.
Requesting an official transcript

Can a diploma replace a transcript?
No. A diploma does not list courses, grades, or scores. Any request for a transcript still needs the transcript.
Can a transcript prove you graduated?

Should you keep copies of both?
